Our manner of worship at Faith Lutheran Church can be described in three words: Biblical, liturgical, and reverent.
Biblical: At Faith Lutheran Church, we believe everything should be saturated in the inspired, infallible, inerrant, and Holy Word of God. Our service is absolutely steeped in Scriptural language, Psalms, Scripture readings, Biblical hymns, and faithful preaching. We believe that God’s Word is a supernatural gift that transforms our minds, feeds our inner spiritual life, and is ultimately meant to turn us to the Savior of the world, Jesus Christ. Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path. Psalm 119:105
Liturgical: The Holy Spirit teaches us through the Apostle Paul that, “All things should be done decently and in order” (1Co 14:40). Faith Lutheran Church follows the historic liturgy, used by Christians since the time of the ancient church, in order to worship the Lord and receive His gifts in an orderly manner. Most parts of our liturgy can be traced back to the earliest Christians, with some aspects even being adapted from the synagogal worship of Jesus’ time. This may seem unfamiliar to some, and that’s okay! We take things slow and our Pastor takes his time to make sure the liturgy is easy to follow. Feel free to reach out to us with any questions or concerns about our worship practice.
Reverent: You’ll notice during our worship, especially in Holy Communion, a good amount of bowing, kneeling, and general reverence around the altar. This formality is not a show or a performance to be done in the sight of men. We do these actions because we heartily acknowledge that God Himself is present by His Word in the absolution and preaching, and by Christ’s true body and blood in Holy Communion. Our bodily postures acknowledge that, in worship, the King of all creation comes to dwell with us and forgive us our sins.
